Today's Meeting 8/31/10

At our meeting today we discussed some important matters:
  • Horse Rescue - An orientation will be held at the horse farm in Cumming on 9/11 from 11am-1pm. You must bring your liability form with you, signed by a parent. If you are under 18 you must bring a parent with you to the orientation. Once you complete the orientation, we can go to the farm as a group to volunteer.
  • T-shirts - T-shirt forms were given out. You have a choice of 3 t-shirt colors. T-shirts are $7 and all orders are due to Mrs. Lusher by Friday, 9/10. Please pay by check and make checks payable to NGHS.
  • Applications - All applications are due to Mrs. Lusher or Mrs. Guilarte by Friday, 9/10. We will not be able to accept any other applications after that date.
  • Dog Wash - The dog wash will be held from 12-2pm on 10/2 at Suwanee Animal Hospital. We will be meeting the week before to make bandannas and discuss a doggie bake sale. Recipes are located in the google group.
  • We voted on members for the following officer positions: secretary, treasurer, historian, and public relations. The winners have been notified, and we will be holding an officer meeting next week. More info to come shortly!
If you missed the meeting, all forms are located in the google group or from one of the sponsors!

Horse Rescue

We have found a horse rescue for our volunteer work! The North Wind Equestrian Center, Horse Rescue, Relief, and Retirement Fund, Inc. is located in Cumming, GA, about 30 minutes from the school. To first volunteer we all need to attend the 2 hour training session about caring for horses on September 11th from 11-1pm. Your parents will have to sign a liability release form (the form will be given out at our Aug. 31st meeting, and it will be posted in the google group), and if you are under 18 (probably almost everyone), you will need to bring a parent with you for this training session.

After you have completed the training session, we can go in groups to the rescue and work with the horses in a variety of activities. This session also counts toward your community service. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Guilarte in T-16 or Mrs. Lusher in T-22!

Meeting recap, t-shirts, and a horse rescue

At yesterday's meeting we handed out applications, discussed activities for the club, and voted on a meeting day (Tuesday). We also set the date for the next meeting, August 31st at 2:30 in T-22. T-shirt colors were chosen and voted on...we are just trying to match the colors to those available from the printer. Below is the basic t-shirt design:

T-shirts will be approximately $7 each, and we will begin taking orders as soon as the shirt color is finalized. We also planned a Dog Wash for October 2nd at Suwanee Animal Hospital. At the dog wash we would like the have a doggie bake sale, as well as offer bandannas to those dogs who get a bath.

This year we would like to branch out, and also work with a horse rescue. Does anyone know of one in the immediate area? If so, please contact our president or one of the sponsors.

Finally, at our next meeting we will be electing our remaining officer positions for this school year. We have the following positions available: secretary, treasurer, and historian. The secretary is responsible for taking notes at meetings and helping to promote the club. The treasurer will help collect money and keep track on our fundraising efforts. The historian will document everything we do through pictures, and scrapbook.

Questions? See our google group, ask a sponsor, or officer!
